Margin Calculator
Calculate profit margin and markup, or find the price you need to charge.
Margin vs. Markup
Margin (%) = (Selling Price − Cost) / Selling Price × 100
Markup (%) = (Selling Price − Cost) / Cost × 100
These are often confused, but they answer different questions. Margin tells you what share of your revenue is profit. Markup tells you how much you added on top of your cost. A 50% markup is only a 33.3% margin — they're not the same number.
Worked Example
Cost ₹400, sold for ₹550: profit is ₹150, which is a 27.27% margin and a 37.5% markup. If you instead wanted a 30% margin on that same ₹400 cost, you'd need to price it at ₹571.43.
