What the data is actually useful for

What wearables are not
It's worth being direct about the limits here. A wearable is a monitoring tool, not a diagnostic one. It can suggest that something is worth a closer look; it cannot tell you what that something is. The most useful way to think about wearable data is as a conversation starter with a qualified clinician, not a replacement for one.
Getting more signal, less noise
The biggest mistake new users make is checking the numbers every hour and reacting to every fluctuation. Day-to-day noise is normal. The value shows up over weeks, when you can look back and ask, "is this trending in a direction I should pay attention to?" rather than "is today's number good or bad?"
The bigger picture
Preventive care has always worked best when problems are caught early and cheaply, rather than late and expensively. Continuous, passive monitoring — the kind that happens on your wrist without you thinking about it — is one of the more promising tools we have for making "early" the default instead of the exception.
